Cost per CBM Calculator

Divide total transport cost by shipment volume to get an average transport cost per cubic metre (CBM).

Inputs

Practical guide

Use cost per CBM for volume-driven freight comparison when cubic volume is a meaningful commercial denominator.

Change one input at a time when testing alternatives, and use the worked example below as a quick sanity check for units and scale.

How it works

The tool uses only the values shown in the input card and applies the displayed formula or comparison directly. It does not infer missing operational data. Cᵥ = C ÷ V.

When to use it

Use the result as a focused pre-check or allocation metric, then combine it with the other route, cargo, time and cost constraints that matter for the actual shipment.

What to check before dispatch

CBM measures geometric volume, not usable trailer layout. Stackability, floor footprint, LDM, payload, securing space and irregular shapes can make equal volumes behave very differently.

Worked example

€1,300 ÷ 45 CBM = €28.89 / CBM

Common mistake

Do not assume a low €/CBM means the trailer is efficiently used; bulky non-stackable cargo can consume floor space long before cubic volume is full.

FAQ — Cost per CBM Calculator

What does this result not include?

Treat the result as a planning check based only on the values entered on this page. Vehicle, route, contract and legal constraints that are not shown must be checked separately.

How is the result calculated?

Use the displayed formula with consistent units and compare scenarios by changing one input at a time. The calculator does not infer missing costs, dimensions or rules.
