How it works

Estimate the floor space a pallet load occupies before you start arranging the whole trailer. The calculation focuses on pallet footprint and loading metres, so you can separate a space problem from a weight or volume problem.

Choose pallet type and quantity

Select the pallet format and number of units you expect to load. If the freight uses custom dimensions, enter the real footprint instead of assuming every unit is a Euro pallet.

Convert footprint into trailer space

LogicCalc turns the combined footprint into an estimated floor-space demand and LDM contribution using the working trailer width. This gives a quick planning figure for how much deck length the load consumes.

Use the result together with payload, cargo dimensions and the load planner. A pallet load can fit by weight and still fail by floor space, or fit by floor space while another restriction becomes critical.

Practical example

Example: 10 Euro pallets

A Euro pallet has a 1.20 × 0.80 m footprint, or 0.96 m². Ten pallets therefore represent 9.6 m² of footprint. With a working trailer width of about 2.4 m, that is roughly 4.0 loading metres before allowing for gaps, orientation or loading constraints.

Pallet Space Calculator FAQ

Is pallet space the same as payload?

No. Pallet space measures the floor area or loading length the freight occupies. Payload is a weight limit. A load can be acceptable on one measure and exceed the other.

Does the calculator know whether pallets can be stacked?

The floor-space estimate should be treated as a single-layer planning figure unless your load plan explicitly accounts for safe stacking. Stackability depends on the goods, packaging and handling conditions.

Why can the real trailer need more space than the formula suggests?

Gaps, pallet orientation, wheel-arch or equipment clearance, load-securing needs and mixed cargo can reduce usable floor space. The formula is a planning estimate, not a packing guarantee.

When should I use the full truck load planner instead?

Use the load planner when space must be checked together with cargo weight, item position, payload use and balance. The pallet-space calculator is deliberately narrower.

What to verify before loading

The result is a geometric planning estimate. Real loading still depends on the trailer, cargo handling and securing requirements.

  • Confirm the actual pallet and cargo footprint; overhang or non-standard packaging changes the space demand.
  • Allow for gaps, orientation, load-securing equipment and unusable trailer areas instead of treating every square metre as perfectly packable.
  • Do not use floor-space fit as proof that payload, axle loads or cargo-securing requirements are satisfied.
